Getting started

1. Choose your vault

The first time you open NoteVault you choose the folder that will be your vault. It can be a new folder or one you already use with Obsidian: NoteVault does not assume it created it and does not touch your existing notes. More details in The vault.

2. Walk through the sidebar

The left bar has the modules: Overview, Calendar, Habits, Exercise, Nutrition, Projects, Goals, Finances, Notes, Tasks and Web Browser. The Mentor and Skills appear in the right bar. Each module is explained in Modules.

3. Create your first note

In Notes, create a new note. Write in Markdown; the preview updates as you type. Link other notes with [[name]].

4. Decide whether you want AI

NoteVault works without AI. If you want to use it, open Settings and choose a provider. The full detail is in AI.

5. (Optional) Build a study plan

Open the Mentor, create a plan with a start and an end date, and let it spread the topics. The app tells you the pace you need per subject to reach the end date. See Mentor.

Tips to avoid losing data

  • Every entity is a file: back up the vault folder like any other folder.
  • To sync between computers, use the tool you prefer on the folder (Syncthing, Git, a cloud service). NoteVault does not need a server.
